Here is what is more than likely the final design for the Grouper Fish commission. At the time of posting I've not yet heard if everyone who has to approve it has approved it, but this should be more or less what it ends up like (if major changes end up being made, I'll share those too, I'm sure).

Grouper Fish Commish
I was commissioned by my church, via Richard, to create a cartoon fish mascot for an upcoming church promotion. Included in this post are my original conceptual sketches based on what they were asking for. I will post the final version once it is completed...so stay tuned!

There was a moment when they thought maybe the fish would be a pirate? These are the sketches I did of pirate fish! Arrrrr! And the coin in the fish's mouth in all the sketches is a reference to Mat 17:27.

Gorilla and a Full Moon (The Zoo Again)
I went on another outing to the Birmingham zoo this weekend. While there, I had the opportunity to snap a picture of this poor gorilla in a rather...um...compromising position. Now don't get me wrong, I have great respect for gorillas. They're probably my favorite animal. But I have to admit...the part of me which is still only 10 years old finds this picture to be some sort of comedy gold. You're welcome!

And here is a sampling of other pictures I took at the zoo.

So the above picture went on to inspire these doodles.

French Maid
Once again, another piece drawn for a thread on the Drawing Board. The theme was, obviously, French Maids. This particular French Maid seems to be a bit lazy about her job.

And, of course, the pencil prelims.

Bueno to the Future!
I recently had the good fortune of commissioning a piece of Jennifer & Bueno art from the talented Daryl Walker. This is the first time another artist has done a full illustration of any of my characters, and I was very pleased with the results. He even drew inspiration from one of my favorite movies.
Then I went on to turn this piece into a bit of a collaboration, as I added color (and cheesy movie poster style text) to the original image. Here's how that turned out. Hope you enjoy, and many thanks to Daryl for the great art.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch Commission
I recently received a commission request for a picture of Sabrina the Teenage Witch with her cat, Salem. This is what I came up with.

And of course, the pencil prelims as always.

If You're Not First, You're Last.
Well, I saw Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby this weekend, and I laughed quite a lot. Afterwards I was inspired to do an illustration of Ricky Bobby himself (along with the lovely Karen). It's no secret that I'm horrible with likenesses, and that's no different here. Hopefully I at least captured the spirit of the character even if it fails to look like his real life counterpart.

And here are the pencil prelims.
And here's one extra bonus sketch I did of the character. Whether you've seen the movie or not, you'll likely recognize this one.Thursday, August 03, 2006
Jenn & Bueno at the Sockhop
In the previous post you saw the pencil prelims for a new Jennifer & Bueno illustration. And now, as promised, I give you the finished product! I hope you enjoy the art as much as Jenn & Bueno enjoyed the sockhop.

Girls Gotta Dance!
Once again, a thread on the Drawing Board has been the original source of insiration for my latest artings. The theme this time around is dancing girls. I've done a few sketches so far...and here they are.
--Andrew
First off, we have the beginnings of a new Jennifer & Bueno illustration. For once I'm giving you the rare "treat" of seeing the pencil prelims in advance of the finished product! Hopefully within the next couple of days I'll have a fully finished version of this picture to share with you here. For now, here is the work-in-progress for Jenn & Bueno at the Sockhop!
I also did a couple of sketches of a belly dancer for the thread as seen below. The poses for each of these come from photo reference. Unlike the previous piece, I don't know whether or not I'm going to do anything more to these or just leave them as plain (rather flawed) sketches.
