A Trip to the Pet Store

Here is another two-page comic that was done for U Magazine (Summer 2007 edition). In it we join Bill the Bill as he learns about the financial responsibilities involved in owning a pet. The client was Big Blue Dot.

And here are a few of the rough conceptual sketches I did before
starting work on the comic.

What a boring children's story.
BUT...

wonderful work
highly entertaining story drawings.

Why doesn't Bill just rob the store?
Doesn't Bill have any off-shore holdings?

Very nicely drawn, even though Brian is right, this makes for a sucky kids cartoon... Eh, maybe they'll learn that you can be edutained in these comics one day... but I doubt it.

It may be boring but this is awesome. I remember public service annoncements like this in the old Archie comics. I always skipped over them until I had read the comic so many times I finally decided that I had nothing better to do but take a look. I'm sure some artist spent a lot of time on those drawings. And so you know, they did eventually get read. At least by me. Though I won't lie and say they forever changed my life.

This one is very well executed. Good drawings.

Thanks to all of you for the comments. I guess a story about budgeting your money can only be so exciting, huh? But I'm glad you liked the execution.

Brian: Bill can't rob the store because everyone knows who's on the front of a dollar bill, so even if he wore a mask he could still be easily identified.

aintshakespeare: Yeah, I remember those. The ones I remember the most are the ones for Hostess cupcakes and such. Apparently all these buff superhero icons soend a lot of time eating pastry snacks.
