Jenn & Bueno: Christmas 2009

Here's the art for this year's Jenn & Bueno Christmas card.

I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season! Not to mention an excellent New Year, etc. etc...

Jenn & Bueno Book SALE (Plus, "It's a GOAT!")

When I was a child, I really, really liked goats. I still think they're pretty darn cool animals.

I have about 10 more copies in my possession that I can sign and draw a sketch in before I ship them out to you. Once those are gone, all future copies will be sold direct from the publisher. Fire Bird

Here is yet another recent attempt at the scribbling exercise. Again, the exercise is as follows: I scribbled all over a piece of paper with my eyes closed (the results of which are also seen in this post). Then I examined the scribbles to see what shapes I could make out of them. This time we got a giant, exotic bird (a phoenix, perhaps?) roasting marshmallows over a campfire. Enjoy!

Jenn & Bueno: Halloween Bones!

I apologize for the long delay since the last post! This artistic drought is still, for the most part, enduring. If she doesn't return of her free will, I have plans to send mercenaries after my Muse any day now to bring her back by force.

In the meantime, enjoy this Jenn & Bueno Halloween piece I managed to get done. It's a reworking of a J&B illustration from a few years back. HAPPY HALLOWEEN, everyone, and enjoy!

Down the Rabbit Hole...Again

I did this for a "Grown Up Alice" themed Art Jam I discovered on deviantART. Being a fan of all things Wonderland, I couldn't resist participating. Apparently Alice's taste in clothing never changes.

Enjoy, and don't forget to check out the Jenn & Bueno sketch comic that was the bonus weekend update, for those who havent' seen it yet.

Jenn & Bueno: Fan Request

Here's a bonus update for the weekend!

I have no special desire to see the new movie, Jennifer's Body. Still, every time I see it promoted I can't help but think about the fact that I occasionally use Jennifer & Bueno to spoof current movies...and then all the obvious jokes come to mind. That had to be addressed, so here you have it!

A quick and sketchy comic, just for fun! Enjoy!

Jenn & Bueno: Joysticks

Here we have some retro gaming with Jenn & Bueno! Jenn's pose was taken from a photo reference used in a Drawing Jam on the Drawing Board. As usual, I had to take the idea and turn it into something for this duo. Enjoy!

Disney Buys Marvel

Two posts in a single week! How's that for Mister Missing-in-Action-of-Late?

When I heard the news that Disney has purchased Marvel and its massive stable of characters, this is one of the first pairings that came to mind. What do you do when you get two of the worst tempers in the world in the same room together?!

Enjoy!

Snoozing Schnoz

Here is another attempt at the scribbling exercise I picked up from Goobeetsa some time back. The exercise is this: I scribbled all over a piece of paper with my eyes closed (the results of which are also seen in this post). Then I examined the scribbles to see what shapes I could make out of them.

The scribbles and the initial artwork for this piece were actually done way back in 2007. I just picked it back up and finished it the other day...because when I found it, I decided I kind of liked it. Also, it makes for a decent end-of-summer piece. Enjoy!

Jenn & Bueno: Pool Party

Yet another summertime piece! This time the rarely seen Heidi joins Jenn & Bueno for some fun in the pool (because what other female character have I yet established in J&B's universe?)

This was inspired by a photo in the newspaper a few weeks ago of some kids playing in the pool. I liked the shot, so decided to adapt it for a J&B piece. Enjoy!

Jenn & Bueno: Ice Cream Trip

In case you wondered what Jenn & Bueno have been up to while I've been suffering this artistic block of late, it appears they've been having some summer fun (and mishaps) at the beach! Enjoy.

(And be sure to scroll down for the other new post this week, the latest Jenn & Bueno commission from another artist.)

Jenn & Bueno: Superbly Mario'ed

When fellow deviantART artist and all-around talented fellow, Mario Gonzalez, recently offered $10 sketch commissions, I wanted to see his take on Jenn & Bueno. So here it is!

Scooby & Daphne

This is actually a remake from several years ago. I saw the old one recently and liked the concept, so I decided to give it a do-over. While it's fairly unwatchable as an adult, I loved Scooby Doo as a child. Daphne might even qualify as my first crush.

And this doesn't necessarily signify a return from my creative "dry spell" of late...it's something I had already finished and just hadn't posted yet. Hopefully more new stuff will come soon!

Sorry for the Lack of New

I just wanted to apologize that I've been off my usual once-weekly posting schedule lately. A few bits of genuine busy-ness, combined with a rather discouraging dry spell in the inspiration department have slowed down my output. Though this one's been a bit longer than average, the dry spells are always temporary, and I'll be back to the usual arting schedule relatively soon I'm sure. (If nothing else, I still have one or two things in the can from before that I haven't posted yet.) I just didn't want anyone to think I'd abandoned the Blog-O!

Meanwhile, there are still new posts in the Dream Journal, at least, for those who read it.

Jennifer: 25 Expressions Meme

Another meme I found on deviantart. Thought it would be a fun exercise, so I did it. The original template for the meme was found at this link. Enjoy!

Heydaze: The Movie Pitch

This is based on an actual encounter a friend and I had with a gentleman on the streets of Atlanta back in April.

While I adapted the scenario for the comic and had to paraphrase the man's words from memory, I have added nothing to the man's ideas. They are his own. And I thought since his lively story will likely never see the light of day, the least I could do is bring it to a tiny audience in comic form.

Enioy!

Jenn & Bueno: Schoolgirls

Jennifer is really a little bit older than school-age, but when there was a recent thread on the Drawing Board devoted to schoolgirls, I couldn't resist using J&B in my contribution. Which ended up becoming two contributions. Enjoy!

-Andrew

Fun Fact (a.k.a., just a regular fact of no particular degree of fun):
The two smokers in the second picture were regular supporting characters
in the comics I used to do several years ago. Heidi and Sam were two members
of an all girl garage band. I think this is Sam's first appearance since those days, though Heidi has popped up here and there on occasion.

Consie Cone!

It's no secret that caricatures and likenesses are not my strong point (hence you almost never see them from me).

But I'm a big Conan O'Brien fan, and when I saw a Conan thread over on the Drawing Board forum celebrating his first week as host of The Tonight Show, I couldn't resist joining in. It's not a perfect portrait, but hopefully it's close enough! And it was fun, anyway.

Jenn & Bueno: S'up? PLUS Actual Fan Art

Jenn & Bueno's 2009 Summer Movie Spoof series continues with Disney/Pixar's UP. Forgive me, these things just get sillier and sillier...but enjoy!

-Andrew

Also, here's a bit of actual fan art I did after one of the two times I saw the movie this weekend. I believe this movie may seriously be Pixar's best yet. It works on every level, and I love it! But I won't ramble on about it here (you can read the review I wrote on Facebook if you care that much about my thoughts.)

Jenn & Bueno: Terminator Salivation

The Jenn & Bueno 2009 summer movie spoofs continue with Terminator: Salvation. Don't worry--Jenn is OK. It's all special effects and makeup!

Enjoy!

-Andrew

As an added bonus, here is a top secret peek into the behind-the-scenes
filming of Jenn & Bueno's Terminator: Salivation

Jenn & Bueno: New Umbrella

This spring has been predictably full of rain, often in the form of storms both mild and severe. So I decided there needed to be a rain-inspired Jenn & Bueno piece. Instead of an entirely new idea, I decided to remake an old illustration from 2004 (which appears to have been the first ever illustration pairing these two together). Also, Jenn's pose and predicament in the original was inspired by a picture of a poor girl in in a newspaper photo at the time, therefore I guess it was inspired by proxy in the new one as well.

Enjoy--even though this one's all wet!

Jenn & Bueno: Arf Trek

Time for another Jenn & Bueno summer movie spoof: Star Trek! This one features possibly the corniest title of any J&B spoof ever, which is saying a lot.

As far as the actual Star Trek goes, I've never watched an episode or a movie before, but, in short, I found the new incarnation to be a really enjoyable summer popcorn flick!

Enjoy!

Jenn & Bueno: Wolvereno

Last year's Jenn & Bueno summer movie spoofs seemed to be fairly well recieved, so I thought I'd attempt to do a few for this summer. And since Wolverine is the first big summer movie, it's the first spoof (or spoof-like thing). And it's not just your usual illustration, but a two-page comic! How do ya like them apples?! Enjoy!

(Obviously I've posted this version with both pages as a single file...if anyone has a strong preference for individual pages I could put those up instead.)

-Andrew

My two cents on the Wolverine movie: Better than X3 (which was no real feat), not nearly as good as the first two. It had its moments, and it at least entertained me. Overall it's forgettable, though, and certainly didn't live up to its potential. Perhaps it's due to the fact that I had rather low expectations for this one that I don't find it as horrible as some people seem to think...but it's not especially great, either. I guess that means, "Okay" would be the most succinct review I could give it.

Fatback & Skinny McLean: Pandemic Panic

While they've appeared sporadically here and there, Fatback & Skinny McLean--once my most regular and most popular characters (all terms being relative)--have not appeared in a solo comic outing for a few years now! Here they make a triumphant return (but for how long?). And it's all thanks to the current headlines. Is it too soon? Oh well, what's done is done. Enjoy!

-Andrew

Vader in a Cooler: REDUX!

About three years back, I did a little one-page comic retelling a childhood nightmare about Darth Vader. Recently, Goobeetsa suggested I submit said comic for inclusion in a new Darth Vader-themed art book that is being compiled. It sounded like a good idea to me, so I set to work re-doing the original comic with a bit more care (and updated style) than the original showcased.

I'll update you later with more info on the release of the book as it's available to me. For now, enjoy!

For those who want to compare the new one to the original, here's a link to the image.

Wicked

After being a fan of the novel for quite some time, I finally had the opportunity last weekend to see the Broadway musical, Wicked. The musical didn't let me down, as I thoroughly enjoyed the show! Over two hours of pure spectacle...and while Avenue Q will probably always be my technical favorite, I can definitely say this one is the actual best of the very few Broadway shows I've had the chance to see so far.

Predictably some fan art was inspired, and here you have it (and given that the play inspired the fan art, it's based more on the play than on the book). Enjoy!

-Andrew

Jenn & Bueno: It's Spreading?!

Over on deviantart, where I also maintain a gallery, there's been a little phenomenon lately of a particular symbol popping up in pieces of art all over the place, usually in conjunction with the phrase, "it's spreading".

I don't know what the point of it all is, though I assume the point is solely to see how many people will jump on the bandwagon using the symbol.

Whatever the real point, I decided to parody the whole thing the other day with this quick Jenn & Bueno sketch (by virtue of which I guess I ended up jumping on said bandwagon...d'oh!) I figured I'd post it on the Blog-O as well, for the sake of the J&B fans who visit here.

A Futuristic Farewell

My friend Courtney is packing up and leaving her friends in Alabama to move back home to Florida! So I Futurama-fied a few of us as a going away present. Yeah, I'm Bender. Even though I'm really fairly non-Benderish most of the time. Enjoy!

-Andrew

A little picture of the framed final product:

And here's the very nerdily cool cake we had!
(Melissa gets credit for the idea and Edgar's get credit
for the cake--I just couldn't resist posting it here)

Jenn & Bueno: Easter '09 Comic

Despite all the traditional Jenn & Bueno holiday illustrations, I haven't done anything for Easter in a few years. So here's a Jenn & Bueno Easter comic. Enjoy!

The Cat Meets Futurelad

The Cat was one of my prominent recurring characters back in high school and early college days. These days he still turns up in my drawings from time to time (as long time viewers have probably figured out).

This one began as a random doodle and I just kept adding onto it. I actually did it sometime last year and forgot about it. Found it this weekend and thought I might as well post it. Enjoy...I guess!

-Andrew

Could this possibly be any more pointless? No, it could not.
Could it possibly be any more stupid? Again, the answer is no.

Jenn & Bueno: Luckily Charmed

Instead of the typical illustration/pin-up, I used a comic format for this year's St. Patrick's Day piece. Enjoy!

-Andrew

Jenn & Bueno: Watchdogs

Jenn & Bueno are at it again with the comic/movie spoofs, this time tackling Watchmen! Obviously I went with the costumes from the original comic for this piece as opposed to the movie-modified outfits. Partially because of a preference for the originals, but mostly because it was easier to just grab the book for reference than to have to look the new versions up. Enjoy!

-Andrew

For what it's worth, I've seen the movie and was very pleased overall. No adaptation of a book is ever going to be perfect, and this one certainly isn't. But it's nicely done. Someone else said it's not quite a triumph but it is a success. That sums it up pretty nicely, I think. I'll probably go back!

Commission: Plunger'd!!

This is a fan commission featuring the client's original City of Heroes characters, Lady Lawful and Doctor Developer, in a scenario of his specification. Long time viewers will remember I've done commissions of this duo before. Enjoy!
